Read Jackson’s Essay:

My name is Jackson Coachman, and I was born with a hearing disability that has increased as I have gotten older. A deficit I have overcome by reading lips and utilizing accommodations in the educational setting to circumvent the loss of communication and words. In junior high, I developed an anxiety disorder order called Psychogenic Non-epileptic Seizures (PNES), which is a technical term for an anxiety disorder that causes physiological symptoms like seizures. With hard work, the support of my family and medication, I have overcome the seizures and learned to handle my anxiety through organization, time management, and control of my executive functioning. In college, I was diagnosed with a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) in the avenue of writing. This to I have worked hard to compensate for, and I incorporate accommodations and strategies to aid in developing my writing skills. At just 22 years of age, I have faced a lot of challenges in my life, but I have not allowed it to derail me from my goals or hold me back in my accomplishments. For instance, I have achieved many accolades in my school career, such as honor society memberships, scholarship and leadership opportunities, football awards, and community accomplishments, which I value above all others because it is the opportunity to give back for all the blessings I have received along the way. These accolades demonstrate all the hard work, perseverance, commitment, and diligence I have displayed through my life’s journey and remind me of the path that I am traveling toward becoming a Physician Assistant, my ultimate career goal. A goal that I will relish upon achievement not only for what it signifies to me, but for the opportunities it will offer me in life to give back, which is my life’s goal. Therefore, if you invest in me the award of this scholarship, not only will you be giving me an opportunity to further my education towards becoming a Physician Assistant, but you will be investing in every individual I am able to help as a medical professional.
